Lily & Charlie’s wedding took place on the grounds of the historic Underley Estate in the beautiful backdrop of the Lake District.
When Lily told me that the wedding would take place in Kirkby Londsale, I have to admit I had absolutely no clue where it was! A 6 hour drive later I was pleasantly surprised to find Kirkby Londsale is a beautiful quaint village full of friendly Cumbrians. And for such a little town; what a magnificent church.
St Mary’s Church is cathedral-esque, and a pretty amazing place to walk down the aisle.
There were quite a few rollercoaster moments on Lily & Charlie’s day, from exiting the church with the newlyweds to be greeted by torrential rain, an MIA mother-of-the-bride during the group photos and a field of loose sheep!
All these moments always make the day so unique to me, and the rain didn’t last for long – once everyone had filed back to the venue, the sun came out and we were treated to a stunning Lake District sunset.
One of the highlights for me during the day had to be the speeches – all 6 of them! I know many moan at the thought of the speeches at weddings; so many are either mind numbingly boring, cringe inducing and nearly always too long. But not the case for Lily & Charlie! Along with the traditional speeches from the groom, father of the bride and best man, also came hilarious speeches from the other groomsmen, a brilliantly funny and clever poem by the maid of honour and the bride herself also said a few words. The tipi roared with laughter throughout and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
It was a pleasure to be able to photograph a wedding at Underley Grange, as it’s quite a rare occasion but it’s such a beautiful setting.
